Spring Trends 2007

The time is finally here! Winter is finally over, although you wouldn’t know it here in the Maritimes with all of this wicked weather! Time to start peeling off layers and start revealing all that pasty, dry skin we’ve been hiding (don’t worry, you can fix this with a little exfoliation and some body butter). The Spring runways had no shortage of exciting trends. Remember, you don’t have to wear these exactly like the six foot stick figures do on the runways. Take pieces and ideas from the following and adapt them to your wardrobe. Here are my top five fave trends for the season:

Isn’t it romantic
We’ve seen floral done many times, but it is made new once again this season, with designers instead taking inspiration from the 3D beauty of
flowers and applying it to structured dresses, making sleeves, appliqués, and details appear flower-like instead of using a floral print. Oooh, how I love thee!

Be a good sport
Spring runways showed team spirit with hoodies, track pants, Nascarlike prints on fitted polos (for the guys) and lots of stripes and logos.
Please be sure to wear these tailored! I don’t want to be responsible for a bunch of you running around looking like you just rolled out of bed.

Calendar girls
It’s all about the legs! High waisted short shorts, dolman sleeved blouses and turban style headgear will help unleash the show girl in all of us.
Gams not quite that of a Rockette? Don’t worry, long day dresses capture the spirit of this trend as well!

Eighties hits
It seems this decade is destined to stay with us forever. Boy George and Madonna style is everywhere again! Herve Leger brought back the famous band-aid mini dress and fluorescent hues are being seen from space once again! My advice, if you were around to wear this trend the first time in the actual eighties...leave it up to those who never carried their lunch to school in a Jem or Gremlins lunchbox.

Swinging Trapeze
Upper thigh grazing, flowy dresses and skirts that would make most blush! CAUTION: If you like to dance on tabletops, or if you lack grace getting in or out of a car, pair these with stovepipe jeans. Platform sandals will finish off this look nicely!
